Build a Native Store that Offers Service Based Products
Our native eCommerce solution now includes the option to define a product as one that requires shipping (or doesn’t), right from the product listing. This means you can offer service based products like dog walking or grooming, in addition to any others that aren’t shippable.
Which products require shipping and which don’t?
If we use the example of an online pet store, it’s easy to differentiate between the physical products you sell and the non-shippable services you offer:
Physical products that require shipping may include dog food, leashes, beds and treats. Non-shippable services by that same merchant may include dog grooming, dog walking, and training.
Services that don’t require shipping won’t have any shipping fees added to the cart’s total at checkout, and the buyer won’t be asked to provide their delivery address.
How to turn a product’s shipping requirement on or off
Here’s how to set the shipping requirement of a certain product (keep in mind that this option is available on the product level, not on the variant level):
- In the (native) store, go to Manage Products and select the specific product you want.
- Scroll down to Shipping, located under the Inventory section.
- There you’ll find a new toggle switch for turning the shipping requirement on or off for that product (all new products will have this set to on by default).
- To mark a product as a non-shippable service, toggle the switch to turn the shipping requirement
off.
